Autoimmune: Your Health Checklist

Mastering the Specialist Appointment: Your Personal Consultation Navigator

Navigating the healthcare system with an autoimmune condition can feel like a full-time job. Between the "brain fog," the fatigue, and the often-brief window of time we get with a consultant, it’s easy to leave a specialist appointment feeling unheard or, worse, forgetting to mention the very symptom that’s been stealing your joy.

At Holistic Health Artistry, I believe in being a partner in your own care - not just a patient. This "Navigator" is designed to help you reclaim your voice, track your progress, and ensure every minute of your appointment is used effectively.

The "Golden Rule" of Preparation

Specialists are experts in their field, but you are the expert on your body. Preparation Mastery is the bridge between the two. By arriving with a structured summary, you move the conversation from "coping" to "evolving."

1. The Clinical Snapshot (The Admin)

  • Medications & Supplements: List everything. Mastery Tip: Always include dosages and any herbal supplements, as these can interfere with blood tests or interact with prescriptions.

  • The Pharmacy Check: Note down any repeat prescriptions you need to request to save yourself a secondary trip later in the week.

2. The Symptom Snapshot (The Evidence)

Instead of a long list of minor aches, focus the consultant's attention on your Top 3 most impactful symptoms.

  • The "Win" Column: We often forget to mention what is working. If your sleep has improved or your skin is clearer since starting a new protocol, note it down. These "Success Markers" are vital data points for your specialist.

  • Energy Scale: Give yourself a rating out of 10. Tracking this over months is the only way to see the "invisible" trends of your recovery.

3. The Lifestyle Context (The "23 Hours")

A specialist sees you for 20 minutes; you live your life for the other 23 hours and 40 minutes.

  • External Factors: Have you recently relocated? Are you under increased stress at work?

  • The Foundation: Briefly mention your dietary protocol (e.g., strict gluten-free/dairy-free) so they understand the holistic work you are already doing.

4. The "One Big Question"

Consultations can feel rushed. Write your most important question at the very top of your page. If you only have five minutes, ensure that is the question that gets answered.

5. The Data Folder

Keep a small folder with your last three months of blood results or scans. Having these to hand prevents "clerical" delays and allows you to discuss the numbers in real-time.

Why Track Your Appointments?

Healing is rarely a straight line. By filing these one-sheets away, you create a historical masterpiece of your health journey. You’ll be able to look back six months from now and see - with cold, hard facts - how far you’ve truly come.

Confidence in the consulting room comes from being prepared. When you own your data, you own your health.

"My Story"

Thirty Years of Artistry. A Lifetime of Resilience.

The Journey:

My path into holistic health wasn't chosen from a textbook; it was forged through a 40-year diagnostic odyssey.

I first experienced the symptoms of Coeliac disease as a toddler, yet I waited until I was 20 years old for an answer. Decades later, as I was raising my first child, Lupus began to whisper. Even with a lifetime of health advocacy under my belt, it took another 4 years of searching, testing, and advocating to finally be heard. I had my second child whilst navigating Lupus symptoms.

The "Cluster" and the Craft:

Today, I live with a complex internal landscape: Coeliac Disease, Osteopenia, Lupus, Raynaud’s, Sjogren’s, Scoliosis, and a splenic aneurysm.

I don't share this for sympathy. I share it for authority.

I know the bone-deep fatigue that sleep cannot touch. I know the frustration of the "Brain Fog" mist. And I know the sheer mental load of managing a body that feels like it’s in a constant state of "High Alert."

Why "Holistic Health Artistry"?

When you live with multiple, overlapping conditions, "standard" advice rarely works. Your healing must be Bespoke. It must be an Art.

I created Holistic Health Artistry to bridge the gap between clinical data and the reality of a busy, often chaotic, life. My mission is to help you find your own "Signals of Safety"—using garden-grown nutrition, nervous system rituals, and the wisdom I’ve gathered over 30 years of navigating the unknown.

You aren't a list of symptoms.

You are a masterpiece in progress.

Let’s start the reclaim, together.

Facebook Support Group

A Facebook group set up to support those living with Autoimmune Diseases or are living gluten-free, dairy-free life.

Emma Alexander-Cook

My name's Emma. I've been living gluten-free for over 25 years, and I've been dairy-free for over five years.

Health and Auto-immune Diseases

I have auto-immune diseases and expected to be on medicine for the rest of my life, but I didn't want to live like that. My rheumatology Doctor was so supportive of the change I wanted to make, and with their help, I now manage my auto-immune diseases by being strict with my diet.

It can be quite frightening when you first find out you have to change the way you eat but for some of us' Food is our medicine.'

I have several websites, write blogs, and I'm currently in the process of writing a book.

I trained to be Holistic Health Coach, Meditation and Mindfulness Teacher and Certified Gluten Free Practitioner in order to heal myself, my family and others who find themselves on the same journey as myself.

Photography

Our love for photography started on our travels. We wanted to capture images of the areas we travelled to both for our own records and for our family back at home. Some of these images were reproduced as watercolours. Our favourite images we display at home and friends often asked where we had purchased the pictures! Now you can purchase them online directly from us.

Coaching and Consultancy

Previously an IT Manager my skill set has come in very handy as I am both a Health Coach and also offer consultancy for small business starts up and fellow Health Coaches. This has included building websites and online profiles.

Our Family

Family is everything to me! We have a family of four boys where the age difference between the youngest and the eldest is 18 years. Two of our sons are also Gluten Free and Dairy Free. Emma is a Health Coach who specialises in helping individuals and families achieve their health and wellness goals. Ian runs his own business which began developing a Race Timer for diecast model cars.
